Merger signals further expansion for financial services group

Matlock’s accountancy firm, Malcolm J Harris Ltd, has merged with Buxton Chartered Accountants SMH BullockWoodburn, allowing it to offer more services as it becomes part of the wider SMH group based in Yorkshire and the Derbyshire.

The business now operates from the SMH BullockWoodburn office on Hardwick Square North, Buxton.

SMH BullockWoodburn, led by newly appointed partner, Ross Jordan, provides a full range of corporate and personal financial services, including accounting, financial advice, commercial finance, wills and estates and mortgage advice, to businesses and individuals.

Jordan said, “The merger is a great opportunity for both companies. It provides long-term security and higher value-added services to Malcolm J Harris customers and enables the continued growth of SMH BullockWoodburn within the wider SMH Group.

“Clients of Malcolm J Harris will now benefit from a full range of services they previously did not have access to, including our personal financial services, such as retirement and investment advice, and assistance with wills and probate and estate tax planning.

“Having recently been appointed Director and Partner of SMH BullockWoodburn, I am actively looking to grow the business, and the merger with Malcolm J Harris Ltd is an excellent starting point.”

Malcolm Harris, on behalf of Malcolm J Harris Ltd, added: “We have always provided our customers with personal, proactive and personalized service to meet their needs and requirements.

“However, for a small business, the burden of increased administration, regulation and anti-money laundering, as well as impending tax law changes, combined with our pension plans, have meant that we need a bigger partner to continue to provide the excellent level of service that we have always prided ourselves on offering our customers.

“I’m sure SMH Group is the right partner for us and I’m very happy to introduce Ross and his team to our customers.

“My wife, Jill and I will remain as consultants to ensure continuity for our clients and introduce them to the team members who will work with them across all specialist departments within the SMH Group.

“SMH Group has the expertise to continue to provide the highest quality service to our customers, as well as to introduce their full service offering, which means they will be able to access all their financial needs under one roof. .”

The addition of Malcolm J Harris Ltd to the SMH Group is the sixth merger to take place since 2018, and the first to join SMH BullockWoodburn since joining the SMH Group in 2018.
